Set in New York City in 1922, ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’ concerns a young girl from Kansas who comes to New York in search of a new life for herself. Her grand plan is to find a job as a secretary for a wealthy man and then marry him. However, her plan goes completely awry. The owner of her dingy hotel kidnaps young girls to sell to the Far East; her wealthy boss is slow in proposing marriage; and the man she actually falls in love with doesn’t have a dime to his name – or so he tells her.

"Putting a show like this one together can be a very daunting experience. All three disciplines in musical theatre - acting, dancing, and singing are really put to the test! and imagine our poor prompt trying to follow the chinese script! We have a great group of people at Teachers who are eager to put on great shows, and this year have really worked together as a team, which makes my job a very rewarding one. "

A truely exciting evening

This show revolves around Millie and what a star this Millie was – word perfect, superb dancing and an immaculate stage presence. We have seen her since her early chorus days and the transformation has been incredible. This may sound over-enthusiastic but she is on stage most of the time. One doesn’t forget the rest of the cast whose performances were also exceptional. Miss Dorothy, a delightful first class ‘frothy’ performance, Muzzy gave a lovely ‘dizzy’ interpretation, Mr Graydon an extremely efficient character and Jimmy Smith a typical theatrical ladies man. Wonderful show, wonderful cast.
